What you’re not changing, you’re choosing.

"What you’re not changing, you’re choosing." It’s a simple line with a powerful truth behind it.

We often talk about the things we wish were different – at work, in our habits, in our relationships, or in our teams.  But every time we tolerate a situation that isn’t working, avoid a tough conversation, or delay a needed decision, our inaction becomes a quiet form of decision making.

Sometimes, we default to saying something is out of our control. The truth is, the list of things truly outside of our control is pretty short. Most of what shapes our experience lives in how we respond, what we tolerate, and what we're willing to address.

Not changing is a choice; and that realization can reframe your role from “stuck with this” to “I have influence over this.” I find this liberating because it means we’re not powerless. We’re not passengers.  We have more influence than we often give ourselves credit for.

The phrase, ‘what you’re not changing, you’re choosing’ isn’t about blame.  It’s about empowerment.  It’s about agency.  It’s about owning the freedom to act, even in small ways.  It’s about shifting from passive acceptance to intentional action – one step at a time.

If something isn’t serving you, you don’t need a perfect plan or a big move.  Change doesn't always start with a big leap. Often, it starts the moment we stop telling ourselves we don't have a choice.

What’s one thing you’re ready to stop choosing?
